BOONE CIRCUIT COURT INSANITY RECORDS, 1881-1963

“Y” in the Envelope column indicates that there are loose-leaf documents associated with this entry.  The date in a row with a “Y” in the Envelope column does not necessarily correspond to the dates of the documents in the envelope.  For example, such an entry has the year 1898, but the envelope contains documents from other years.  The envelopes are sorted alphabetically by last name.  Indexed by Evgeny Jenya Chumin; revised by Eric Spall, 2021.  These records are part of Series II and Series III.C, Boone County Records, Special Collections.

Miscellaneous Index

This index indexes many of the Heritage Center’s bound (published and unpublished) Boone County volumes that were originally created without indexes.  The Index lists the entry subject, a code for the indexed volume, and the page number(s) on which the entry is found.  The Index Code shows the full titles of the indexed volumes and notes explaining decisions made while indexing some of the volumes.

Postcard Index

Collection contains postcards sent to residents of Boone County, dating from the early 20th Century to the 1970s, as well as postcards collected as souvenirs. The description in the index is of the type of card (e.g. Christmas or Birthday) or the image on the front of the card (e.g. Arizona landscape or Barracks, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas) and not of the contents of the message.  Items are filed in the same order as in the index.  The locations of oversize items are noted in the index.

Note:  Other postcards featuring images of Boone County scenes are in the Photograph collection.

Mortality Schedules

Mortality schedules were compiled with the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 Federal Censuses.  They provide information on people who died during the year prior to the census.  These mortality schedules can help you find information regarding the death of some people who died prior to 1882 (the year Indiana began requiring death certificates).
