CHILDREN’S CIRCULATION ASSISTANT (part-time)

Job Description

Title: Library Assistant

Reports To: Youth Services Department Head

Job Classification: Non-Exempt Hourly Part-Time Assistant

Requirements: High School Diploma or higher

Preferences: Library experience and/or experience working with children.

Hours (20 hrs/week):

  • Monday – Friday: 9:00am – 1:00pm
  • 1 Saturday a Month: 9:00am – 2:00pm

Starting Wage: $12.50/hr

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Knows and applies library policies.
  • Provides excellent customer service to library patrons.
  • Understands the necessity of, and maintains, the confidentiality of library use.
  • Has a working knowledge of the library Evergreen software, and able to serve patrons at the circulation desk.
  • Shelves materials as assigned.
  • Straightens and organizes shelves as assigned.
  • Assists patrons with use of library computers, printers, and fax machines.
  • Maintains knowledge of library materials and can assist patrons in finding what they need.
  • Assists with programming, discarding, signage, cataloging, and preparing new books.
  • Helps keep department clean by picking up books, toys and/or trash in the department.
  • Works cooperatively with other departments and staff members.
  • Completes any other tasks as assigned by their department head.
