SUMMARY:Sounds of America: How Music Tells Our Story
DESCRIPTION:In this interactive workshop\, pianist Clare Longendyke invites participants to discover how music can represent the story of a nation. Through listening games\, rhythm activities\, and creative musical exploration\, participants will learn how composers translate the sounds\, cultures\, and landscapes of America into music. Together we will explore how American composers such as George Gershwin\, Samuel Barber\, Margaret Bonds\, and Florence Price created music inspired by spirituals\, jazz\, folk traditions\, and the natural beauty of the American landscape. Attendees will participate in the music making\, imagine musical scenes\, and even help create a short musical story together. No musical experience is required\, just come prepared to listen and imagine. This fun and engaging session offers a behind-the-scenes look at how composers use sound to express identity\, culture\, and history. Open to all ages\, best suited for ages 8 and up.
